Remento promises to turn your family's stories into a beautiful keepsake book using voice recordings and AI. Sounds amazing. But does it deliver? We went through hundreds of real reviews — here's what people are actually saying.
Quick refresher before we get into it.
Remento texts or emails your family member (usually an older relative) a question like "What was your first job?" via SMS or email.
No app download needed for the storyteller — they just tap a link and talk. Recordings are saved automatically.
Remento transcribes the recordings, cleans them up with AI, and turns them into a printed hardcover book you can order.
Costs ~$99/year to use, plus the cost of the printed book. US-only.
These are word-for-word from Trustpilot and Reddit. We're not here to pile on — but you deserve the full picture.
"I paid for 1 year (supposedly). My father recorded 7 prompts in 1 year. He's 74! Now I have to shell out another almost $100 USD?"— MakeSense, Trustpilot
The subscription renews annually whether you've used it or not. If grandpa moves slowly, that's on you, apparently.
"There is no customer service number — it sends you to a bot named 'Happy' who gives you automated responses for weeks."— Monica, Trustpilot
Happy is… not always helpful. Multiple reviewers hit the same wall when they needed a real human.
"I have been excitedly working on my memories when all of a sudden, I was shut out of my account with no warning or message from Remento."— Sandy, Trustpilot
A handful of users report getting locked out after their subscription lapsed — with no heads-up email. Messy.
"My husband Richard was called Grant in multiple stories. Also the book used third person instead of first person."— Rose, Trustpilot
The AI transcription is impressive, but it's not perfect. Rose's husband Richard came out of the process as a stranger named Grant. The book also narrated his life story like a Wikipedia article about someone else. Proofreading before ordering: strongly recommended.
"Could not get it to work on Safari or Chrome on my iPad."— Beverly, Trustpilot
The irony: Remento is often gifted to older relatives, who tend to use iPads on Safari. A common combo that apparently causes problems.
"Remento only allows recording of stories using text and email in the USA."— Wally, Trustpilot
If your family is international, the SMS prompt feature doesn't work. You can still use email, but the experience is different. Not obvious from the marketing.
"My son gave me Remento for my birthday, but as I was adopted, a lot of the questions I cannot relate to."— Gaye, Trustpilot
The pre-set prompts are very family-tree focused. Adoptees, non-traditional families, and people with complicated histories may find some questions feel off.
"The issue I see here is the $99 annual fee and the QR code. How long will this company stick around?"— Fee_Training, Reddit
A fair question. If Remento folds, the QR codes in your printed book point to… nothing. The audio recordings would be gone. Worth thinking about before you build your family archive on it.
"I tried Remento and it made the process feel human. I love the thoughtfully curated questions, which revealed stories from my parents' past that I would have never known otherwise."— Verified customer, Trustpilot
"Made family history fun! My kids absolutely loved learning new stories about their grandparents each week."— Verified customer, Trustpilot
Mostly yes, with some real caveats.
